Our clients had a positive return in 2008.
How did you
do?
If you were like most Americans,
you saw your account balance plunge 40 to 50% that ugly year. True, it
likely gained back much of those losses in 2009 - but our clients rode that bull
market as well. Can you imagine how much better off you would be right now
if you had a positive gain in 2008 and then rode the 2009 bull? More
importantly....
What is your contingency
plan for the next bear market?
Sitting there and watching your
net worth go lower and lower again isn't much of a plan. Especially
when there are often low-risk opportunities to actually make gains during
these periods. How are you ever going to compound gains into wealth if you
are only see-sawing up and down in range-bound markets?
A recent article in
Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine (by columnists Witney Tilson and
John Heins) said it best: Buy and hold isn't what it used to be.
What we do here at Samex isn't easy, but it isn't rocket science either. By
paying attention to what the supply and demand forces in the markets are
telling us, we can accomplish our basic objectives of....
» Preservation of
capital. Always job one. There is no sane reason to ever sit there with a losing
position and watch it get worse and worse. When the market tells us to get
out of a position we get out, plain and simple. We need to preserve that
capital, because we want to put it to work...
» Taking advantage of the
market's true opportunities. With our capital safely intact we are
poised to benefit from the obvious opportunities that arise in almost any
market environment. You can't do that if you are stuck watching a losing
position get worse and are just hoping to get out even. By that time
you probably missed the obvious opportunity for gain.
Our methodology isn't a secret:
We work hard to pay attention to supply and demand forces in the markets,
and act accordingly. For over a decade now our clients have greatly
benefited from this common sense approach.
